CARE-TBI Mailing List Rules
Below is an outline of the list rules without an explanation of their individual purpose. Most are self explanatory, are just common sense or are standard Internet or mailing list guidelines. A brief explanation will follow. Please remember, by adhering to these rules, you are being considerate to your fellow subscribers.
.) Do not SEND or REPLY to messages that have nothing to do with Caregiving, support or are not BI related. Keep message on Topic which is BI Caregiving. Do not send, Virus warnings, Jokes, Test messages, Messages from other people not on the list, messages from other lists or text from Web Pages or other sources to the list. If you have something you feel should be posted or would like to post, send it to the List Administrators first. If you think there is trouble with the list, see the FAQ Page for instructions on this.1.) You must quote ONLY enough of the others persons message when replying so they know what you are addressing. Do NOT quote entire messages. It is rarely needed unless that message is only one or two lines. Listserv will reject your message if you include the Headers in the quote.
The basic "Netiquette" rule says: Do not quote more than you write. This is a good and fair rule, you can't go wrong if you apply it here.

3.) One liners such as "thank you" or "I agree" MUST go privately.
Any message that does not benefit more than one person or is directed to one person MUST go privately. The ONLY exception are "Support" messages.
4.) Do not post messages from other mailing lists or individuals, without the List administrators and the original poster's permission.
5.) Do not post or discuss any specific religion, religious doctrine or religious material to the list. Please remember this is an International list with it's members coming from many ethnic and religious backgrounds. The name "God" in posts on this list is to be considered the supreme being for all religions.
It's certainly understood that Christianity is the largest major religion in the English speaking world, it is not the only one however. Please have respect for your fellow subscribers and their beliefs.
6.) No advertisements for commercial businesses or products are allowed. Discussing Doctors, Rehab or Care facilities and the like are fine. Professionals that maybe on this list are forbidden to advertise their practice or products.
Any member that solicits another member of this list for products or services for monetary gain for themselves or any other person will be removed from this list without warning. Any person that receives private mail that is a solicitation, no matter how discreet, should notify the List Administrators immediately.
7.) Messages from this list are NOT to go beyond the subscribers of this list without the List Administrators permission and the permission of the original poster.
8.) Of course no profanity.
9.) Message Subjects -
Please choose your subjects carefully, make sure they relate directly to what you have written. If you are replying to a previous post and you have changed the subject of the message, please change the Subject line to be more in line with your message. If your replies of support are more in tune with just one individual a "/theirname" at the subject end would be helpful.
10.) Flaming / Arguing-
Although I would say it is non-existent here, arguing and personal attacks on individuals is prohibited. It is certainly ok to disagree with someone but, once that is done, anything more is an argument.
11.) Only the original caregiver who subscribed to this list can post to it. Other family members or friends CANNOT use your email account to post to this list.
12.) Do NOT write in all CAPITALS. If you insist on writing in all one case, use all lower case.
13.) Keep your signature lines to a minimum size, if you need one at all.
14.) Do not sent any attachments to the list. This includes Pictures, Executables, Documents and other messages as attachments.
15.) Subscribers will not use their subscribed address to forward list mail to another address for any reason. Violators will be removed without warning.
16.) There are 100's of mail programs out there and this is a mailing list where there are hundreds of subscribers from all over the world using all these different programs. In order for all of us to communicate so all of our mail programs understand each other, we must all speak the same "language". The ONLY language that is constant with all the existing programs in use today is Plain, ASCII or "US" text. Many mail programs have HTML and/or RTF formatting. This is "pretty" but serves no real purpose in communicating with others. All Subscribers must set their mail programs to send in TEXT ONLY. Any reference to HTML or RTF must be turned off. Also you should have a setting for "Transfer Encoding", this should be set to 7-Bit.
Rules Explanation -
The MAIN purpose for these rules are to enhance the quality of the list and to help those on it. Most subscribers NEED information and support, that's why they came here. However, most also work, manage a household and care for their loved one. This of course leaves them with little free time.
These rules reduce the time it takes to get directly to the information and support they need without sacrificing any quality. The best way to do this is to eliminate unnecessarily volume, junk and private messages from going through the list. Please remember, when you post or reply to the list, 300 other people are getting a copy of it.
Other reasons are:
1. To do our part to reduce unnecessary Internet traffic.
2. To Guarantee subscribers privacy as well as others.
3. Help stop the spread of SPAM, Virus, and HOAX messages.
4. To keep the archives free from "junk" messages and a lot of unnecessary text. This makes it MUCH easier to find specific info in the archives when you NEED to find something.
5.To help guarantee that subscribers get their mail. Some subscribers have a limited mail box size and their ISP refuses mail after a certain amount. So for each junk message you send, that's one good one they won't get.
